Drilling of cartons

The drilling of the cartons is usually done with the aid of steel plates pierced with 104 holes at the division of the needle board of the mechanism and designated by the name of matrix.

The cardboard is clamped between the two plates and the holes are drilled with pieces. Using die plates the drilling is done with a mallet. It is done more quickly by using a press similar to the presses used for the drilling of the large cartons of Jacquard mechanics.
In order to drill a given armor, it is necessary to know the filling and the collating of the mechanical means, that is to say the place occupied by the needles controlling the hooks in relation to the healds.
The lining of the mechanics 104 is generally done on the two external rows, the first one, the lower row generally controls the right side of the healds and the fourth row, that of the top, controls the hooks situated to the left of the mechanism and supports the Smooth on the left side.
The mechanism has 26 rows and the two hooks of the same rod are located in the same row.
The collage is indicated by stating on which horizontal row the needles are placed and counting row by row starting from the first row of the mechanism which is located behind to go towards the lantern of the cylinder.
The collation is carried on the die plate and the holes are drilled following the crosses arranged according to the weave on the course of the healds and the cartons.
The pierced cartons are numbered on the side of the lantern (right side of the cardboard) and then interlaced, that is to say connected to each other by laces or the rope of embroidery which one passes in the external holes pierced to Side of the pedon holes.
